I was invited to participate in a roundtable about season 5 for the New York Magazine. Other guests include Miles Schneidermann, Elio and Linda, Amin and Jonathan Vess. Check it out!
That was cool. It was like the Super Friends of ASOIAF nerds, although the Unsullied guy seemed a little out of his league. It seems like you are the only voice of reason when everyone else is flipping out and quitting the show. Like many people have said, it is impossible to know what actually is a spoiler. I wouldn't be surprised if George changes the books to further deviate from the show. I also wouldn't be surprised if the show actually changes things up a little after all the backlash this year.
I don't think the Unsullied guy was out of his league so much as he was coming to the show from a totally different perspective. I understand the changes that had to be made moving this material to a TV series, and for the most part I think the show runners have made pretty decent decisions about what to keep, what to cut, what to change, etc. Even so, I find I'm very conscious of how having read the books impacts how I experience the show, and it doesn't surprise me at all that someone who hasn't read them has a very different take on the show.
