Forecasting The Winds of Winter, Part 1: The North
If fools rush in where angels fear to tread, then we’re about to pull a Patchface: We’re foolishly forecasting the events of The Winds of Winter in our new episode! The start of a series, this installment sees us attempting to predict what’s in store for the North in volume six of A Song of Ice and Fire. What fate awaits our POV characters—Bran, Davos, Melisandre, Asha, Theon, and of course Jon Snow? How will things shake out for supporting characters like Rickon, Osha, Hodor, Tormund Giantsbane, Wyman Manderly, the Reeds, and the Boltons? What will happen at Hardhome, Winterfell, the Wall? Like everyone who isn’t George R.R. Martin, we have no freaking idea, but it’s fun to guess, and our best guesses await! (NOTE: We do refer on occasion to the TWoW preview chapters Martin has published or read aloud, so be warned!)
But wait, there’s more! This episode also includes the formal announcement of two new fundraising drives for the podcast. The first is our new Patreon page, where you can pledge to pitch in a few dollars a month to help keep the podcast running. The podcast will always be free, but even a little money per month will make it easier for us to record more frequently and with better equipment. There are also some cool goals and rewards, so please check it out!
Our second fundraiser involves a more urgent concern: Sean’s laptop screen was recently shattered in a mishap involving his kids’ Wii controllers, and replacing it is an expensive proposition on a fulltime-freelancer’s salary. So we’re opening the coffers at our PayPal donation page. A one-time donation of any amount will help Sean revive the computer he uses to work and record—a real necessity. Again, any amount helps. ReplyDeleteI am pretty confident Alister Thorne will be coming back from his ranging at a amazingly convenient time. ( I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out if he killed the group of allies Jon sent out and covered it with the Weeper's M.O.)
I imagine he will oversee the imprisonment of the remaining wildling leadership. (Tormund, Val, that Warg, the NW guy who is Wun Wun's translator)
I think that while the wildlings will have the numbers, they are spread out amongst the forts, or in moles town, and without a mouthpiece, they will remain peaceful until further provocation or a new leader emerges.
I imagine the queens men will join with Thorne as most of them share his bias of the wildlings. Plus the evil douchebag combo of Thorn and Selyse will be too good not to write about.
This uneasy peace will be sealed when Thorne agrees not to immediately burn Jon, because Melisandre influenced Selyse.
I'm not sure why, but I keep on getting the sense that Davos will return to the North via the wall, and will be the catalyst that sets off Jon's resurrection, joining the Wildlings to their cause and heading to winterfell to rescue Stannis when things appear to be most bleak.
I have no clue how any of this ties in with the others. I'd like to picture some sort of moment of realization for Bowen and Alister that they fucked up, maybe as the wall is tumbling or as the Others begin their assault into the realm by rolling over them.
I don't believe we'll get a Prologue North of the wall this book. It's got to be a master in the south right?
If there is a pattern in this, yes. Not sure, though.

ReplyDeleteI think Ramsay wrote the Pink Letter. I'm on board with the idea of the Karstarks faking out the Boltons into thinking Stannis is dead and Ramsay writes his note in a fit of euphoria. If Stannis did write a letter it was different one that preceded the PL, probably one that was sent with the Karstarks "confirming" Stannis is dead.
As for TWoW prologue, I thought I heard somewhere that it would involve the Westerlings (Jeyne specifically). I have a hunch the Blackfish is going to engineer a rescue of her and Edmure.
Yep, some Lannister lord with Edmure's treck makes sense.
