The people living in Westeros today can condemn him as an evil murderer, but they should also be happy that he did it. Assuming the tale is true, no sons or daughters would be alive without that sacrifice.

This mentality was touched on in many books/films, for example A Few Good Men: "You weep for Santiago, and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall."

Or Serenity: Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: So me and mine gotta lay down and die... so you can live in your better world? The Operative: I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me there... any more than there is for you. Malcolm... I'm a monster. What I do is evil. I have no illusions about it, but it must be done.

The obvious answer against both of them is that they're factually wrong about what is necessary. But the more interesting question is, what if they're right? What do we say then? Condemn them, and be secretly glad that they exist? Is it right to sacrifice others in the name of continued human existence, or is it still wrong? Is it possible to be both wrong and necessary? What does that sort of judgment even mean? If you say that Azor Ahai was wrong, then you're either saying "You should not sacrifice Nissa Nissa, but you must." Or you're saying that history should have ended there. Interesting food for thought :) Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1758815004886180861.post-45113085913486063722015-06-16T17:26:13.715+02:002015-06-16T17:26:13.715+02:00And rightly so!And rightly so!Stefan Sassehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03504751435668017553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1758815004886180861.post-37037437041550604712015-06-16T17:18:42.571+02:002015-06-16T17:18:42.571+02:00If the real Azor Ahai was on the show and he stabb...If the real Azor Ahai was on the show and he stabbed his wife NIssa Nissa through the heart everyone would hate him no matter what he did after that. He would be remembered as the crazy guy who was trying to make his sword and killed his wife. There would then be complaints about his violence against women for killing his wife.sardonicsmirkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00230617066054375838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1758815004886180861.post-8516056680523957892015-06-16T15:21:12.166+02:002015-06-16T15:21:12.166+02:00I think Stannis had a good tragedy arch, but I'...I think Stannis had a good tragedy arch, but I'm sad that we only got a few days to discuss whether the ultimate sacrifice can ever be the right thing to do. The showrunners clearly come down on the side that traditional common sense morality is also the smart thing to do, by immediately showing that the sacrifice was both horrible and completely foolhardy. I wonder if the books will confront the question head on. I assume one of the first threads to be addressed in Season 6 is a reciprocal threat to Dorne, if not the actual murder, of Dorne's sole heir.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1758815004886180861.post-4438187019211540952015-06-15T17:34:54.865+02:002015-06-15T17:34:54.865+02:00I think there are two choices for Stannis. I was honestly kind of disappointed to see Dany meeting the khalasaar without Drogon too. I`ve been wondering how her having a Dragon at her side affects the meeting with Jaqho and his riders for ages now.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1758815004886180861.post-63679713691829828322015-06-15T16:25:17.620+02:002015-06-15T16:25:17.620+02:00On inside the episode they said that Dany dropped ...On inside the episode they said that Dany dropped the ring "as a brad crumb so poeple would know that she was taken". As if Jorah is going to walk the world and find a ring on the ground, and then know exactly where she is. I mean based on the show he might.
Do you think that Doran knew about Elaria poisoning Myrcella? In the scene he nods to Elaria before she steps up to kiss her.
Do you think Stannis is alive? I am pretty confident he is. If he was dead they would have shown his head being cut off.sardonicsmirkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00230617066054375838noreply@blogger.com
